Boys basketball kicks off their season winning The Blue Valley Tournament

The Raven Men’s Basketball team kicked off their season last Thursday, December 8 in the Blue Valley High School Tournament. Before even entering the season the Ravens were seated number two in the state.

On the first day of the tournament, the Ravens were up against the Oak Park Northmen. The team took the lead within minutes with points from seniors Willie Cauley, Shavon Shields and junior Trey Bales. By half time the boys lead the Northmen 31-24. Coming back after the half the team did nothing but rowdy up the crowd. The Raven Men’s Basketball team took home their first win against the Northmen , 61-40.

Going back into the tournament Friday night, taking on the Lee’s Summit Tigers was no worry for the Ravens. Coming off of a win the previous night the team knew they could defeat their second game of the season. Lee’s Summit showed much persistence but the Ravens talent out shined the Tigers. Conducting a 37-25 lead at half time during Friday nights game, soared the Ravens to the top returning to the court for the second half. Cauley and Shields wowed the crowed dunking on the other team simultaneously. After a dominating second half, the Ravens had made it to the championship game, winning 59-41.

Saturday was the night of the championship game. The Ravens were up against the Lawrence Lions. Star player for Lawrence, Anthony Buffalomeat, was a threat to the Ravens. The team had a rough start to the game, lacking defense. Bouncing back and fourth the whole first half had the Ravens determined. The Lions lead the half 16-15.  The Ravens knew they had it coming for them during half and knew they needed to get their game shoes on. Returning from half time, the team got their heads in gear. With monster dunks from Cauley, they got the team’s adrenaline going. After an intense second half with 20 points from Shields, 16 points from Bales and 15 point from Cauley. The Raven Men’s Basketball team won the Blue Valley High School Tournament, defeating the Lawrence Lions 57-41.

Winning the Blue Valley High School Tournament was a great start to the men’s season. The Ravens,  going into their regular season undefeated, will be a threat to their opponents. The Raven Men’s Basketball team kicks off their regular season tomorrow todat against Southwest Charter. We wish the boys the best of luck on the rest of the season.
