Men’s Basketball Coaches

Head Coach:
Mike Grove:  mgroveonw@olatheschools.org

The 2017-2018 season is Coach Mike Grove’s 15th year as head coach for the Olathe Northwest Men’s basketball team. Grove was voted the 2009 and 2012 Mens’ Sunflower League Conference Coach of the Year, and led the team to back-to-back Sunflower League Championships in 2011 and 2012. A graduate of Missouri Southern State University, Grove is a physical education instructor at ONW and also has coached the Raven Men’s Golf program for the past twelve years where his teams have qualified for the state tournament seven times. Grove’s coaching philosophy is “good things happen to teams who work hard and stay together”. Grove is a native of Carthage, Missouri where he played basketball and won a state championship in golf.  He and his wife Kelly, have five children, Mary, Cecelia, Katherine, Eli and Leo.

 

Justin Wrecke:  jwreckeonw@olatheschools.org

The 2017-18 season is Coach Justin Wrecke’s 14th season as an assistant coach for the Olathe Northwest boys’ basketball team. Wrecke earned his Bachelor’s degree from Washburn University where he played football from 1994-1997. As an Ichabod, Wrecke started thirty-three straight games at wide receiver. He has a Master’s degree from Emporia State University. Wrecke played football, starting for the Kansas Koyotes and helped lead them to six APFL championships from 2003-2008. A native of Hartland, Wisconsin, Wrecke was an All-Conference football, basketball, and baseball player. He also played in the Wisconsin Shrine Bowl. Wrecke teaches physical education at ONW where he also coaches football and track. He and his wife Melissa live in Olathe with their two daughters.

 

Brian Holthus: bholthusonw@olatheschools.org

Brian Holthus begins his seventh year back at Olathe Northwest after spending four years teaching and coaching in Belton, Texas.  There he taught middle school social studies and coached football, basketball, baseball, and track.  Prior to moving to Texas, Holthus taught social studies at Olathe Northwest and coached football and baseball from 2004-2007.  He graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas in 2004 where he played basketball. He started as the sophomore team coach at Olathe Northwest.  This is his second season as the Junior Varsity team coach.  A native of Silver Lake, Holthus and his wife, Emily, have a three-year-old daughter, Lillian.

 

Andrew Meile: ameilewdsc@olatheschools.org

Coach Meile is the current sophomore coach in his second year at Olathe Northwest.  He graduated from Olathe South in 2004, where he was part of a state championship team that finished 24-1.  He played college basketball at Washburn University and was part of a conference championship team and NCAA Division Two Tournament qualifying team in 2005.  Meile graduated from Washburn in 2009.  His coaching experience includes one year at Washburn University as a grad assistant and two years at Shawnee Mission South as a freshman and sophomore coach.  This is his third year at Olathe Northwest working as a para educator.
