Olathe East won its third consecutive game – and sent Olathe Northwest to a second straight defeat in the process – with an overpowering ground game in a 44-20 win Friday at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
John Kelsh scored on a 2-yard run for the only score in the first quarter, but Kendall Kelly, a transfer from Shawnee Mission North, added 10- and 15-yard touchdowns as the Hawks’ lead blossomed to 21-0 by halftime.
The Ravens, 2-2, got on the scoreboard first in the second half when Connor Middleton lobbed a 31-yard halfback pass to 6-foot-10 wide receiver Willie Cauley.
But East, 3-1, answered with a 22-yard scoring strike from quarterback John Blazevic to wide receiver Junior Williams.
ONW kept things interesting with a 1-yard TD run by Middleton, but Kelly’s third touchdown – a 2-yard run – followed by a safety and a 40-yard TD run by Hayden Frazier iced the win for East.
Middleton capped the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown.
