This morning we said goodbye to 8 of our departing staff members, who we will miss very much.  Four are retiring and four are moving on to other opportunities.  We wish them well!

Mark your calendars now for College Now information nights.  These nights are for any juniors or seniors with a College Now course on their schedule who wants to enroll for college credit.  The night will consist of enrollment steps, a parent panel, and 4 year college reps speaking on the transferability of credit.

Both sessions will be from 6:30p to 8:00p.

• Tuesday, August 20 – Olathe Health Occupations Center – 21201 W 152nd St – near the Olathe Medical Center at 151^st and I-35.
• Thursday, August 22 – JCCC Campus – Regnier Center, Room 101

The Great Midwest Balloon Festival occurs Aug 9th and 10th – and benefit over 30 area charities.  We are looking for teen volunteers for face painters on Aug 9 and 10 – need 20 volunteers for each time slot from 3:45 to 5:45, 5:45 to 7:45, and 7:45 to 9:45.  Please let me know if you can fill these positions.  We give free food, t-shirts, and admittance and training to all of our volunteers.

Today, Mr. Hector Silva, director of the Olathe Latino Coalition, came to the Web Design room to present an award of appreciation to junior, Gladys Campos.  For her endorsement project this year, Gladys worked with Mr. Silva to create a website for the Olathe Latino Coalition – a group whose goal is to make Olathe a more welcoming place for the Latino population.  Gladys benefited not only from the experience of designing a website for a client, but also made some valuable connections and has the satisfaction of knowing that her work is used by the Olathe Latino Coalition to help improve the quality of life for many in the community.  Congrats to Gladys, and a big thank you to Mr. Silva for giving an ONW e-Communication student a chance to shine!

Mr. Silva describes to juniors the purpose of the Olathe Latino Coalition.

Gladys Campos is awarded a plaque of recognition for her work on the OLC website.
