This past January, our team received a surprise visit from an alumnus, Jon-Bernard Pro. He’s graduated a semester early, giving him two months of free time between graduation and heading into Officer Candidate School for the Navy in March. What is he doing with his free time? Helping his old FIRST Robotics team, of course! For the last two months, he has been mentoring and helping with the robot, as well as giving constructive criticism to the animators and designers. In July, he will become an officer for the Navy and start flying F18s on aircraft carriers for Navy missions. From Public Relation Officer to US Navy Officer, Jon Pro remains a vital part of the Team 1710 family.
Jon was on the team from 2006 through 2008, working on both the robot and raising team spirit. He also served as Public Relations Officer during his senior year. When he was here, he helped us win the Spirit award in Chicago in 2007, and then again in Denver and the Kansas City Regional in 2008. He was also a pioneer in the first ever Leadership Class for FIRST Robotics team leaders.
After graduating from Olathe Northwest, he went on to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and majored in aeronautical science and minored in business and aerospace electronics. Jon was one of ten people nationwide to win a $20,000 FIRST scholarship to attend. While there, he got in 520 flight hours and even taught others how to fly. We can’t wait to hear what Officer Pro does next!
