Olathe Northwest Alumni Association

Mission:

The Olathe Northwest Alumni Association was created in 2012 by a group of alumni with the goal of connecting with fellow classmates and building a community of Raven pride beyond graduation.

Association:

All graduates are considered associates of the ONW Alumni Association upon receipt of a diploma from Olathe Northwest High School.

Alumnus of the Week

September 22, 2014Emily Nethercott, formerly Briggs of the Class of 2004, attended The King’s College in New York, NY, where she earned a B.A. in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics in 2007. Not finding a job in New York, she decided to take a job she found on Craigslist to teach English in South Korea. There, she met her husband, Eric and decided to make teaching a career. She and Eric moved to New Orleans to get Master’s degrees, along with teaching certification, in both their content and Special Education. After three years in New Orleans, they moved to Saudi Arabia, where they currently teach in the premier private school in the Eastern Province.

September 16, 2014 Lauren Butler, formerly Massey of the Class of 2005, attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in political science. She then attended the University of Missouri and received a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, with an emphasis on higher and continuing education. She currently works at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Law as an admissions and recruitment coordinator. She met her husband, Kevin Butler, in college. On September 28th, 2013, they married in Olathe. The couple now own a house in Lee’s Summit and are expecting a baby girl in December.

September 9, 2014 Michelle Ramey, formerly Neal of the Class of 2006, attended Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in Personal Financial Planning and a minor in Leadership. After graduation, she worked at a financial planning firm in Overland Park, Kan., where she helped the senior financial advisors in daily activities while she obtained her KS State Heath & Life Insurance licnese. Since January 2013, Michelle has worked at SkillPath Seminars and became the assistant manager of her department within a year of employment. (SkillPath Seminars offers professional staff training to all of the Fortune 500 companies and beyond.) In April 2012, she met her husband, Tim Ramey, at Church of Resurrection in Leawood. The couple was married at the church on May 31, 2014.

August 20, 2014Marcus Marchant, Class of 2006, joined the United States Navy as a Submarine Culinary Specialist (CS). Shortly after graduating from boot camp, he married Lisa Marchant (formerly Toplikar), also an ONW graduate. Then, he went to the great boat, USS Kentucky 737 (Blue), in Silverdale, Wash., and met many great leaders and mentors. After two 3-month deployments, he qualified and received his Submarine warfare pin and his next advancement to e-4 or CS3. …While serving on the great USS Kentucky, he appeared on the TV show, “Modern Marvels” Mega Meals. After a few more years, he transferred to a shore galley, named Trident Galley Inn, in Naval Base Kitsap (still in Wash.), which is a 5-star Service and back-to-back Edward Ney Award winners that is ran by some of the greatest leaders in Washington. He earned the honor of “Culinary Specialist of the Quarter” twice and was a runner-up for “Sailor of the Quarter.” Marcus advanced to the next pay-grade e-5 or CS2 around the time he and Lisa found out they were expecting a baby boy, Tristen Cole Marchant, who was born on May 10, 2014. Marcus recently re-enlisted with the Chief of Naval Operations for another 6 years, at the end of which time he will have over 13 years of dedicated service to the United States Navy. He plans on making it a career and will retire around 41 years old.

July 30, 2014 – Ben Leinwetter, Class of 2008, attended the University of Kansas, became a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and graduated in 2013. He currently lives in downtown Charleston, South Carolina and has since August 2013. H…e is working as a PGA Apprentice Golf Professional at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island. He plans on getting a master’s degree in Business at The College of Charleston. In his free time, he enjoys going to the beach, surfing, and boating

July 9, 2014 – Jordan Craft, Class of 2006, attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he received dual degrees – a B.S. in Political Science and another in Legal Studies. After graduating from the Academy, he was selected for flight school in the U.S. Air Force. After a year of training, he received his pilot wings and found out he would be flying the CV-22 Osprey. (The Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft capable of landing like a helicopter, except it can fly at speeds of an airplane. Its missions entail long range infiltration, exfiltration, and resupply of Special Operations Forces and Unconventional Forces in hostile, denied, or enemy-controlled areas.) He lives in Destin, FL and serves with the 8th Special Operations Squadron out of Hurlburt Field…When Jordan wrote this update, he was stationed overseas for a deployment. He recently returned home!

June 24, 2014 – Jessie Habluetzel, Class of 2006, attended KU and graduated with degrees in Music Therapy and Spanish in 2011. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta for a year working as a Music Therapy intern in the Fulton County School District to serve a variety of kids with special needs. In 2010, she began dating Scott Fluke (also a 2006 ONW alum) and they will be married next June. Scott is in the process of completing a PhD in School Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, which led Jessie to move to Lincoln in 2012. Jessie worked as a private contracting music therapist, as well as a music lesson instructor for a year until obtaining a job at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha as its Pediatric Music Therapist. Currently, she provides music therapy services to children on the general pediatric, pediatric intensive care, pediatric oncology/hematology, pediatric burn, and neonatal intensive care units.

June 11, 2014 – Adam Buls of the Class of 2008 attended the University of Texas at Dallas and graduated with a business degree in December 2011. Adam works in car sales at O’Neill Honda in Overland Park. He married Alexsis Diederich, who graduated from ONW in 2011, on May 14, 2014! The couple owns a house in Lenexa.
May 13, 2014 – Kiera O’Boyle, of the Class of 2007, attended Pitt State University and received a degree in Family and Consumer Science Education in 2011. She is currently teaching FACS at Shawnee Mission Northwest. She has been Irish dancing for 20 years. She recently co-founded a local Irish dance company called ‘Ceili at the Crossroads,’ which performs in the KC area. The dance company has performed in the St. Patrick’s Day parade and at the Kansas City Irish Fest.

May 6, 2014 – Alex Gould graduated from ONW in 2006. After high school, he played baseball and attended MidAmerica Nazarene Univ. in Olathe. After a year of college, Alex left and joined the U.S. Army, where he was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Fort Bragg, NC. He enlisted as a Forward Observer. He left the Army after 3 years at Fort Bragg and 1 year in Afghanistan. He returned to Olathe, where he attended J.C.C.C., studied Sustainable Agriculture and met his wife. Both completed their certifications. They were married and moved to Iowa to work on Alex’s family grain farm. Currently, the couple is working and living on the 1,500-acre corn and soybean farm and sell farm fresh eggs, $2/dozen. Alex and his wife are proud parents to their first child, Noah Dean, born last week!

August 11, 2014 – Evan Hoisington, Class of 2007, attended Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where he was offered the opportunity to play tennis and basketball, but he opted to play only tennis. While there, he also pursued a degree… in elementary education and met his wife, Brianna. After graduating in 2011, he and Brianna moved back to Olathe, where he is in his 4th year of teaching 1st grade at an Olathe elementary school and is the assistant varsity coach for the ONW girls’ basketball program. Evan also coaches a middle school boys’ summer basketball team and helps out with summer basketball camps. He and his wife have a 1-year old baby boy named Colton.

February 19, 2014 – Reid Jennings and Tara (Collins) Jennings, Class of 2004 – Reid and Tara are both graduates of the first graduating class of ONW. After graduation, Reid and Tara attended Kansas State University. Reid and Tara were married in May of 2009, and moved to Spokane, Wash., where   Reid attended law school at Gonzaga. The couple now lives in Denver. They love hiking in the mountains. Reid and Tara welcomed their first child, Carson, in May of 2013. Reid and Tara will celebrate Carson’s 1st birthday and their 5-year anniversary this May, which are both only a day apart.

February 12, 2014 – Erica (Britt) Birney, Class of 2006. — After graduating from ONW, Erica attended college in Colorado. She currently works as a lab technician. Erica has been married for almost 4 years and has a two-year-old son. Erica says life sure has changed a lot since 2006.

 

Upcoming Events

The Class of 2004’s reunion will take place in coordination with Homecoming 2014. Alumni, spouses, children, parents, siblings, friends, teachers, district staff, and all who support Olathe Northwest, especially its opening, are invited to attend the Homecoming game on Friday night. An alumni-only event will be held Saturday night. The specific date of Homecoming 2014 will be announced soon.
