Josh Maddux

Assistant Director

Maddux smallJosh Maddux joined the Olathe Northwest Raven Band staff as the Assistant Director of Bands in the fall of 2013. Mr. Maddux graduated from Blue Valley North High School in 2009. As a member of the Mustang Bands, he served one year as a Drum Major, and was the recipient of the National John Philip Sousa Award, which recognizes superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty, and cooperation.

Mr. Maddux continued his education at the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in May of 2013. While at KU, Mr. Maddux played trumpet in the Symphonic Band for three years, and had additional opportunities to perform with the KU Trumpet Ensemble. He has represented and promoted different degrees of study for the KU School of Music at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio, TX. Mr. Maddux also spent time in college serving as a marching technician/trumpet clinician at both De Soto High School, and Lawrence High School.

Mr. Maddux was a proud member of the University of Kansas Marching Jayhawks for four years. His leadership positions began his sophomore year of college after he was elected as a section leader for the trumpet section. This opportunity was followed by Mr. Maddux having the great privilege of being elected to serve as a Drum Major his junior year, as well as returning to the position his senior year. Mr. Maddux is proud to hold awards through the Marching Jayhawks which include the 2010 Outstanding Brass Performer, and the 2012 Outstanding Band Member. He was also a member of the University of Kansas Basketball Bands for three years; one year performing with the Women’s Basketball Band, and two years with the Men’s Basketball Band which included performances at every home game in Allen Fieldhouse, as well as performances in two NCAA Division I Basketball Tournaments. These two tournaments included appearances at Regional Rounds in Tulsa, OK and Omaha, NE, Sweet Sixteen appearances in San Antonio, TX and St. Louis, MO, an Elite Eight appearance in St. Louis, MO, a Final Four appearance in New Orleans, LA, and an appearance at the 2012 NCAA Division I National Championship in New Orleans, LA.

Mr. Maddux has continued his work with students from across the Midwest as a counselor for the Midwestern Music Academy at the University of Kansas. He has worked for all three of the major camps that take place during the summer months, including the Middle School Music Camp, High School Music Camp, and the Jazz Workshop.

Mr. Maddux student taught in the Blue Valley School District at Stanley Elementary School with General Music Teacher, Mrs. Adriane Falco, followed by completing his student teaching at Olathe North High School with Director of Bands, Mr. Justin Love.

His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, the Kansas Music Educators Association, and the Kansas Bandmasters Association.

Mr. Maddux is truly honored to call Olathe Northwest his home. Having the opportunity to work with Mr. Davis, Mr. Carter, Coach Shannon, as well as so many band students in the Olathe Northwest Area every day is an opportunity that is unparalleled. Go Ravens!
