On November 11, one of the most hyped up video games of year made its debut. “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” is a role-playing game where the player immerses themselves and becomes a dragon-fighting Nordic warrior from the medieval times. The game (playable on X Box 360, PS3, and PC) was produced by Bethesda Game Studios and over 7 million copies have been sold, totaling over $500 million in sales, making “Skyrim” one of the most widely played games in the world. “Skyrim” has received overwhelming critical acclaim as well as winning several awards, including Spike’s “Game of the Year”. “Skyrim” definitely deserves a spot on everyone’s wish- list with the holidays approaching.
“It’s the best game I’ve ever played”, junior Jordan Johnson said.
“Skyrim” should also be noted for its incredibly addictive qualities. Some gamers play “Skryim” and burn multiple hours before even realizing it. Several prominent news sources including the Kansas City Star have warned about “Skyrim” being insidiously time consuming.
“Sometimes while I’m playing, I stop and think to myself, “How can you just sit here and play this game for hours on end when you could be doing good things for people?”
“ It makes me sad for a few seconds, but then I find comfort in knowing that I am making the lives of the people of Skyrim better by killing piles of dragons”, junior Cole Fox said.
