On January 28 the Olathe Northwest forensics squad traveled to Shawnee Mission Northwest to kick off the 2012 season with a first place sweepstakes victory. Not only did the Ravens dominate the competition, they also managed to qualify five different students for the state tournament. The students qualified for state by placing first or second in their particular event. The following students have qualified so far:
Junior Jordan Brower- Humorous Interpretation
Sophomore Kyle Lorey-Humorous Interpretation
Juniors Katie Connor and Jordan Brower- Duo Acting
Senior Peter Borgman- Original Oration
Senior Tony Trent- Impromptu
Brower has already qualified for two events.
“I really like that I qualified myself for the state tournament so fast. I was thrilled that my hard work paid off in the end. I hope that my future tournaments prove just as fruitful,” Brower said.
Although there were many qualifications for state, numerous other Ravens placed in their events, but did not qualify, which greatly contributed to the overall program victory.
