Olathe Northwest’s swim and dive team is finishing their season off in Topeka, KS at the state swim and dive meet this weekend. This meet is a very selective competition, making it a difficult task and high honor to have the ability to compete in. Only the fastest and strongest will be performing. The meet consists of a preliminary meet and finals meet. With a very impressive season so far, Olathe Northwest is looking to rack up points with the ultimate “last chance” meet.
Coach and teacher Wesley Richardson has high hopes for this year’s results.
“We are expecting fifth or sixth place overall,” Richardson said.
Being in the 6A Sunflower League, many other teams are very highly ranked as well. Schools like Shawnee Mission East, Wichita East, Blue Valley North and Olathe East will be our toughest competition.
“Our Medley and 4 by 100 relays will be top 8,” Richardson said.
Seven people total will be swimming this weekend. Some have qualified with earning an automatic time while others have earned themselves a consideration time.
The diving portion for Olathe Northwest is looking good as well this year with three year state champ, Clark Thomas on board with us. Looking to shatter the state record this year and also finishing first, Northwest will be earning an enormous amount of points between Thomas and senior Drew Egan. Egan has also received himself an extremely impressive high school record, winning second behind Clark in all local meets.
As our school competes this weekend, make sure to wish them luck, and look forward to hearing about our results.
