Need an opportunity to learn crucial teamwork skills and broaden your knowledge of fine arts? The Olathe Northwest Choir Department will be holding auditions for the 2012-2013 school year. All current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will need to audition in order to be in a choir. You may audition for ONW Chorale, Da Capo, and Dolce Voce. Auditions will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday March 6th-8th. If you plan to audition you will need to come pick up an audition packet, before or after school, from the choir room and select a time with Mrs. Williamson for your audition.
As a freshman you will be auditioning for either a men or women’s sophomore choir, or the option of an advanced choir. The advanced choirs include ONW Chorale, Da Capo, and Dolce Voce. ONW Chorale is a large group choir committed to steering the main direction of the chorale program here at Olathe Northwest. Da Capo meaning “the head” is a smaller, mixed voices, advanced chamber choir that does most of the outside of school performances. Dolce Voce meaning “sweet voices”, new to Olathe Northwest this year, is a small, closely knit, advanced, women’s choir that does many outside of school performances as well as works on the beautiful tones of female voices.
When auditioning for choir you will need to learn the excerpt of “Shenandoah,” a popular folk song, included in the audition packet. You may choose either the higher or lower key and sing it in the gender appropriate octave. Mrs. Williamson may have you additionally sing “My Country ‘tis of Thee” as well as some vocal warm-ups. If you choose to audition for Da Capo or Dolce Voce you will be required to sing the Olathe Northwest Alma Mater in your voice part while all other parts are being played. This allows Mrs. Williamson to further evaluate your tone, voice quality, and range.
Everything you will want and need will be in the audition packet. You are allowed to use your music for “Shenandoah” and the Alma Mater, and the words for “My Country ‘tis of Thee.” If you have any questions about being in choir, auditions, or learning which part you should sing please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Williamson. Please come pick up your audition packet from the choir room as soon as possible. Anyone and everyone is welcome to audition for choir. No previous experience is necessary. Choosing to be involved in choir at a high school level is an experience worth having. Please come pick up your audition packet from the choir room as soon as possible.
