Area Orchestra Festival a Huge Success

Last week, February 16, the Olathe Northwest Symphonic Orchestra performed in the Olathe Northwest Area Concert, along with orchestras from Prairie Trail and fifth graders from the different elementary schools surrounding Northwest.  The groups played performances from an array of musical influences, from legendary composers such as Bach, to the modern day works of Coldplay.  This event is to show the younger students what they can achieve when they reach more advanced levels in the junior high and high school environment.

“This isn’t something that you can teach in a year, and say OK now you know how to play,” Mr. Martin, orchestra teacher at Olathe Northwest, said.

The event involved over 200 students in the Olathe Northwest area, and the groups played harmoniously together in one final performance, and you could tell that all of the groups enjoyed that final performance immensely.

“It was a lot of fun, and it’s great seeing the fifth and sixth graders watch us,” Zoey Niemann, junior orchestra player, said.

Each grade seemed to learn something new, and the ONW orchestra department has a bright future.
