After tragic accident, Kansas City comes together for a young boy

This past weekend baseball teams from all over the KC metro came together to raise money in honor of Caleb Schwab. Last summer, Caleb Schwab was in a horrible accident at Schlitterbahn. Caleb was on the Verrückt, the tallest waterslide in the world, when there was a malfunction and he was horrifically injured. The other two riders were also terribly injured. Following this incident, Schlitterbahn closed the ride down permanently.

The Kansas City Mudcats, Caleb’s former baseball team, chose to honor him with a benefit tournament. Caleb was a lover of the sport and constantly wanted to be outdoors having fun. The tournament was put together by the Kansas City Mudcats, Premier Baseball, and Perfect Game. They wanted to raise money for those who couldn’t afford to pay for the sport but had a passion for the game. The tournament had a unique twist on the game and all teams were required to play with wood bats. A little over 70 teams participated in the tournament and played all over Kansas City.

In the end, this tournament was put together for kids to play baseball and to be outdoors smiling with their friends and family. Many kids enjoyed the unique twist on the game and were glad to help raise money to give opportunities to kids with great potential. Caleb Schwab will always be remembered as a valuable player and friend, and people will continue to remember him this way.
