The Olathe Northwest Marching Band finished off their season at the Heart of America Marching Festival at The University of Kansas last Saturday. The band was awarded overall Grand Champion and won Caption awards for best Color Guard and Music Performance. “It was a mix of excitement and joy, [and] it was just so much emotions because everything we’ve done all season had led up to this point” said Senior Drum Major Zack Hoar. The Raven Pride Band was also the only Olathe High School that had not won the marching festival. “I was actually pretty shocked because there was a lot of good bands there, and when they announced us to be Grand Champions I was super excited and just knew that everybody else would be really happy about it” said Dance Team Captain Lily Riederer. The band now has won their second festival in school history, with the first one coming last year at the Neewollah Marching Festival in Independence, KS and have won numerous awards at other competitions throughout the year capping off the best season the school has ever had.
