Ravens and Hawks battle in opening game of the boys soccer season

On Friday, August 25th, Raven Nation was in full force for the first soccer game of the year as ONW battled crosstown rival Olathe East. Junior Chase Klusman got the Ravens on the board first with a goal seven minutes into the game. The lead didn’t last long as the Hawks scored just 15 minutes later on a tap in by Andrea Rizzi off a corner kick at exactly 20 minutes left in the first half.

In the second half, the Ravens and Hawks came out aggressive as yellow cards were called on both sides. Olathe Northwest and Olathe East each had several good scoring opportunities in the second half but were not able convert as the game went into overtime still tied 1-1. Sophomore John Lindsay had several impressive saves to keep the Ravens alive in the extra periods. With two 10-minute overtimes, neither team could score, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. This was an improvement for the Ravens as they fell to the Hawks last year in the season opener 1-0. Olathe Northwest is back in action Tuesday night against Blue Valley North at the Blue Valley District Athletic Complex. Game starts at 6:30.
