It is recommended that students take the tests a minimum of two times. Students planning on going to college in the Midwest need to take the ACT test only and it is recommended that they take the writing portion at least once. Students planning to attend a highly selective university or a college on either coast should take the SAT. Students planning on attending a junior college are not required to take either the ACT or SAT; junior colleges have their own entrance exams.
