Wrestling Preseason prospective

The Wrestling season is just around the corner. We met with coach Mesa to talk about his thoughts on the season. The season kicks off on December 3 at Turner High School. The team is coming off a good season, qualifying 6 people to state. Coach Mesa had a great year as the team’s coach. Mesa was voted Sunflower League coach of the year.

This year, the team comes back loaded with seniors. Three seniors are ranked on the following Kansas wrestling website. Will Whitaker is ranked 5th in 120 lb. Taylor Jokerst is ranked 2nd in 126 lb. Luke Middleton is ranked 2nd in 182 lb. The team is not yet ranked.

The wrestling team has many goals for this season.

“One of our main goals is just to improve and be better than we were last year. But, one main goal is to have a top 10 finish at state,” Mesa said.

With so much talent coming back for the Ravens and having a impressive senior class, the chances of this success are high.

“The main guy probably is Taylor Jorkerst. He is probably our number one guy and our favorite guy. Will Whitaker is also a guy who is very seasoned,” Mesa said.

The team has very high expectations and wants to bring some hardware home for the school.
